Tongue-Tie: Why You Should Be Screening in Your Office

December 12, 2023 @ 7:00 pm 8:00 pm EST

Free 1 CE credit

The tongue plays a key role in growth, development, and function. Ankyloglossia (tongue-tie) can lead to compensatory behavior, such as snoring, inability to breathe through the nose, underdevelopment of the midface, crowding of teeth, and TMD. Untreated, it can lead to more serious medical conditions, including digestive issues and sleep apnea. Every dentist should be trained to recognize signs and symptoms of tongue-tie and act as the quarterback in resolving this condition with the patient.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the function of the tongue as well as proper tongue posture for nasal breathing, growth, and development.
  • Explain how to evaluate tongue-tie in infants, children, and adults.
  • Discuss procedures for management of tongue-tie in patients who have the condition.
