SLEEP DISORDERS

Course Description:
This is an introductory course to sleep disordered breathing in both adults and children. We will review the signs and symptoms of sleep apnea and snoring and factors leading to breathing disorders. If you are considering treating sleep apnea and snoring but don’t know where to start, this course will help you learn how to examine/ screen your patients and become familiar with basic sleep terminology to communicate with a physician or sleep lab and appliances. This a great course to help you get started on the right foot.
After completing this course, the clinician will be able to:
- Review the anatomy of the airway
- Learn basic sleep terminology
- Gain exposure to the different sleep appliances available
- Learn how to examine the mouth and oral structures for airway issues
- Become familiar with the Epworth Sleepiness Scale and other screening tools
- Become familiar with the stages of sleep and EEG readings
- Review Metabolic Syndrome
- Review melatonin production and other hormones important in sleep
About Live, Interactive Webcast Continuing Education Seminars:
A live, interactive webcast seminar is similar to attending a continuing education seminar in your community, except that you attend via your computer.
