PSYCHOLOGY
January 26 @ 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm EST
Technical dentistry skills are not always enough to ensure successful patient outcomes. Drawing from her multi-disciplinary background, Dr. S.D. Shanti, who is both a dentist and a psychologist, will focus on dental fears, health literacy and dealing with disgruntled patients and will share potential pitfalls in patient care and ways of improving patient outcomes.
This course will also cover common barriers to effective patient communication that can lead to impaired patient results. In worst case scenarios, patients can misunderstand the importance of certain medications, leading to health crises and potential malpractice claims. Dental professionals will learn how to prevent these types of avoidable patient communication missteps.
Dr. Shanti offers real-life examples and practical guidance for the entire dental team, including written, visual and verbal practices to improve treatment outcomes.
Course Objectives:

- Learn tools to support patients with fears, phobias, and dental anxiety
- Learn practical tips for the entire dental team to improve patient understanding and retention
- Identity and reduce risk associated with patient communication barriers
- Learn how to revise written materials and visual aids to improve patient communication
