Long Term Success with Implant Maintenance

Course Description

The placement of dental implants has become the standard of care for patients with missing teeth. With the placement of dental implants becoming more common, there is a need now more than ever for offices to implement implant maintenance protocols and solutions to effectively and safely treat this growing implant patient population. This course will include an overview of current evidence regarding dental implants and proper maintenance protocols and procedures that are essential for long-term dental implant success. Assessment strategies to recognize dental implant health or disease and instrumentation options to implement an optimal implant maintenance program will be discussed.


Learning Objectives:

  1. Recognize risk factors that hinder dental implant success
  2. Describe the clinical signs of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis
  3. Select appropriate instruments and techniques for dental implant assessment and removal of biofilm and hard deposits
  4. Discuss patient education, including importance of maintenance and the patients’ role in the long term success of their implants
