Course Description

As dental professionals we are always looking at lips, teeth, and tongues. But have you ever wondered how these structures can influence the way you talk, look, breathe, and how they can impact TMJ pain? This course will explore what happens when the functions of breathing, chewing, and swallowing are compromised and their evolution into Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs). This course will also provide you with an overall understanding of OMDs and and increase in your ability to identify OMDs in


Upon completion of this course, the practitioner will be able to:

  1. Define Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMD)
  2. Explore how OMDs affect the stomatognathic system
  3. Review the physiology of breathing and swallowing
  4. Objectively evaluate most orofacial features

Requirements: Have a small face mirror, tongue depressor, and small flashlight
