HEAD & NECK ANATOMY

This course will review the anatomy of the head and neck region. Emphasis will be placed on reviewing the anatomy of the bones, muscles and nerves connected with the Tempormandibular Joint.

This course will discuss various aspects of head and neck anatomy as it plays a role in the creation of referred pain that may manifest as dental or TMJ pain.

This course will discuss the anatomy of the entire head and neck region and is not just limited to inter-oral anatomy.

This course will discuss basic anatomy considerations for Botox and Filler and sleep disordered breathing.  

After completing this course, the clinician will be able to:

  1. Describe the TMJ and its surrounding structures.
  2. Understand which muscles are important in the head and neck especially when treating pain.
  3. Understand which major blood vessels are important in the head and neck.
  4. Understand which major nerves are important in the head and neck.
  5. Understand nerve entrapments; where they occur and how they refer pain.
  6. Understand the different saliva glands, location and function.
  7. Understand the anatomy of the throat and airway.
