COURSE SUMMARY:
A free online dental continuing education course hosted by Dental CE Academy that summarizes the history of electronic cigarette use and the adverse consequences of our patients’ oral and systemic health.
Dental clinicians are uniquely positioned as resources for their patients addicted to nicotine products that may lead to morbidity/mortality, and poor treatment outcomes. Electronic cigarettes were developed in 2003, and have quickly grown in popularity. The dental clinician will receive timely information regarding e-cigarette safety, prevalence of use, the culture of vaping, marketing, health care policy, nicotine addiction, and health implications.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Describe the history of electronic cigarettes.
- State the prevalence of electronic cigarette use.
- Understand known systemic and oral health implications.
- Know the anatomy of electronic cigarettes and other ENDs (Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems).
- Review how electronic cigarettes work.
- Understand the culture of vaping.
